2. The city of Sarasota begins its yearly residential this week. On Wednesday residents north of Fruitville Road and east of U.S. 301 will begin to see the resurfacing projects begin. The project is slated to end in November.

Sarasota Crew's, and recent Riverview High graduate, Hunter Leeming will begin competition in the Men's 8+ at the 2011 on Aug. 3. “My friends told me that I could make it, but I didn’t want to believe it until it happened,” Leeming said. “That’s just my mentality. I never want to expect something to happen, so that way I’m not disappointed. I was happy and relieved (about making the U.S. Junior National Team) before I realized I was going to be training a lot longer.”

5. On Tuesday during a special city commission meeting, commissioners will vote to ratify a new agreement with local unions that will be good through October 2013. In the tentative agreement, the City of Sarasota and Teamster Local No. 173 agree on an opportunity for up to a 3% general wage  increase on October 3, 2012 if the City’s general fund assessed taxable valuation for FY 2012-13 increases by 5% or greater over FY2011-12 valuation.
