5 Things You Need to Know Today: Sept. 29

1. Starting Oct. 3 you are going to have to . Since July, meters and pay stations have been bagged while the city worked out a new parking plan. Offseason rates are $0.50 per hour and during 'season' from November through April, parking is $1 per hour. Hundreds of meters were removed from Gulfstream Avenue, State Street, Cocoanut, First Street and Central to streets adjacent to the judicial center on Ringling Boulevard and Main Street.

2. Looking for a ? From 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. today at the Sunoco at 5808 S. Tamiami Trl, the gas station is offering $1 off gas for up to 10 gallons.

3. Before the first puck drops for the 2011 NHL hockey season, head to downtown Sarasota this weekend for '.' There will be autograph signings, a street hockey clinic, games and an opportunity to pose for pictures with the Lightning mascot.

4.Tonight is at the Ringling Museum from 5 - 8 p.m. Experience the Museum of Art and Circus Museum after hours every Thursday. Enjoy the Museum of Art permanent collection, special exhibition galleries and cocktails. Admission is $10.

5. Advertising signs and banners could be . The old permit cost $140 to hang a banner, and only for a grand opening. The new policy cut the fee to $50, and basically allows a business to hang a banner four times a year for a two-week period each time.
