The need for a Constitutional Convention

The purpose of a constitution is to place restriction on a government. The fact that our federal government consistently violate the U.S. Constitution and our rights, and do as they wish, without fear of punishment, demonstrates that the Constitution, as written, does not do a very good job of that.

Senator Alan Hays (R-Umatilla) introduced SM 476 that calls for a Constitutional Convention. There are several area of the U.S. Constitution that need to be amended. But the two main sections that need amending are Article 1 section 8, the power to borrow money. Currently, Article 1 Section 8 says “ The Congress shall have the Power To...borrow Money on the credit of the United States...”

One problem with unrestricted power to borrow money leads to out of control debt. We need to restrict that power by prohibiting the federal government from borrowing money from foreign governments, foreign individuals, and other foreign entities.

As I said, the elected ones violate the Constitution and our rights, without fear of punishment. Then we need to put the fear of punishment into them. We need to Amend the Impeachment process. The current process (Article I sections 2 and 3 and Article II section 4) the charges are made by the House and the trial is held in the senate. The current process little fear into them because very few of them know, or respect the U.S. Constitution enough impeach anybody for violating it.

We need an independently elected prosecutor and court with no other duties but to try impeachment cases. The penalties would remain the same as they currently are.
