23-Year-Old Charged In North Sarasota Shooting

A dispute between two 23-year-old men over money led to a shooting Monday morning.

A Venice man is facing an aggravated battery with a firearm charge following a shoot Monday morning in north Sarasota.

Kevin Michael Kelly, 23, of 214 Malvern Drive, Venice, was involved with a dispute over money with 23-year-old David Morse when the two argued in the 2000 block of 13th Street in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Kelly was inside a parked car while Morse was standing outside of the passenger door when Kelly shot through the open window, striking Morse, and then drove off after the shooting, according to police.

Morse's injury is not life-threatening and was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital to be treated, according to police.

Kelly was arrested at his home where a handgun believed to be used in the crime was recovered, according to police.

Kelly told police that he intended the shot to be a warning shot, according to police.
