Baby Duck Saved From Sarasota Storm Drain

The baby duck had gotten separated from its mother while crossing U.S. 41 on Sunday.

A baby duck was saved from a storm drain Sunday in Sarasota.

Two Sarasota Police officers were flagged down by a passerby about a family of ducks crossing U.S. 41 at Wisteria Street. A baby duck had separated from its mother and fallen into a storm drain, a police spokesperson said.

The officers requested help from city employee Willie Butler, Sarasota County Fire Station 8 and an animal service officer, who teamed up for the rescue.

That was the second successful rescue of an animal from a storm drain in the Sarasota-Manatee area Sunday. A kitten was pulled from a sewer pipe on Manatee Avenue by Bradenton firefighters and animal services workers.
