Bicyclist Struck On Clark Road

Florida Highway Patrol said the bicyclist cut across Clark Road into the path of a car.

A bicyclist is being treated for minor injuries and is facing a traffic charge following a crash Sunday evening at Clark Road and Colonial Drive.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the intersection at 5:07 p.m. where a 2006 Toyota Scion struck Susan Diane Christian, 50, of Sarasota who was riding a Trek mountain bike.

The bike traveled eastbound on Clark Road's north sidewalk and then decided to cut across traffic off the sidewalk, heading southbound across Clark Road toward the south sidewalk, according to Highway Patrol. At that time, the bike entered the path of the Scion, which stopped for a stop sign and made a left turn onto Clark Road.

The car struck the bike's left side, and Christian was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Christian was not wearing a helmet, according to Highway Patrol.

Christian was charged with improper start of vehicle form a parked/stopped/standing position, according to Highway Patrol.
