Bicyclist Struck on Siesta Key
The driver of an Acura blacked out from a medical condition before crashing into a bicyclist on Siesta Key.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the driver of an Acura MDX blacked out from an unknown medical complication before striking a bicylist on Siesta Key Thursday.
Troopers say Rick M. Freedman, 70, of Sarasota was driving a 2007 Acura MDX on southbound Higel Avenue at about 4:15 p.m. when he blacked out, crossed the center median, then struck a Benjamin Stolzfus, 21, of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, as Stolzfus rode his bike in the bicycle lane.
The car then struck a mailbox, gate and wall at 4099 Higel Avenue, troopers say.

The biyclcist suffered serrious injuries and was taken to , troopers say. Freedman suffered minior injuries and was also taken to Sarasota Memorial.
The car sustained $10,000 worth of damage.
