Bomb Threat Prompts Extra Security at Fruitville Elementary

While the school has checked out clear, Sarasota deputies aren't taking any chances.

A tip about a possible bomb in a vehicle at Fruitville Elementary School has the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office taking extra precautions.

The tip about the threat came in Monday, Sept. 16, and prompted a thorough search of the campus, an email to media from the sheriff’s office said. Nothing was found on the campus.

The threat was allegedly made Sept. 16 by a woman in Jacksonville to a man in Texas. It involved “a person who works at the school and their private vehicle,” the sheriff’s office email stated. Even so, the school was searched Monday night and deputies have heightened their presence there out of “an abundance of caution for the safety and security of students and faculty.”
