Cracking Down on 'Boating Under the Influence'

Here are the results of "Operation Dry Water" in Sarasota County over the weekend.

A crackdown on "boating under the influence" led to three citations, seven warnings and one arrest over the weekend, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office reports.

"Operation Dry Water," a national awareness and enforcement campaign, was held June 28-30 and included increased patrols, life jackets and boater education, Sarasota officials said.

Marine Patrol deputies conducted 23 vessel inspections and issued three uniform boating citations and seven written boating safety warnings. They also made one boating under the influence arrest, as well as arrested and charged two teens for underage alcohol possession.

Alcohol limits are the same on the water as on the road, and anyone caught boating with .08 blood alcohol content or above can be arrested, authorities said.
