Funeral For Bentley Resort Victim Held Today

Philippe Nahon of Sarasota was shot Saturday at the Bentley Resort in Osprey.

A funeral will be held Tuesday for the Sarasota man who was shot and killed at the Bentley Resort Saturday.

Services for Philippe Nahon, 48 of 4122 Hearthstone Drive, Sarasota, will be held at 10 a.m. today at . Authorities released Nahon's name Monday.

It all started shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the resort, 1660 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey, following a verbal exchange that quickly heated into a fatal shooting. Witnesses told the sheriff's office that Rice told Nahon to sit down at the tiki bar and he refused, so Rice pointed his semi-automatic pistol at Nahon's head and fired, according to the affidavit. After the shooting, Rice is seen in video surveillance holding the gun in his had while walking through the bar area and then "drinks from the liquor bottle stock," according to the affidavit.

Deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office found Nahon dead from a single gunshot wound, according to a report by the sheriff's office.

The suspect, Michael W. Rice, 23, of 410 Friendship Road, Seneca, S.C., was arrested at the scene, according to the sheriff's office. Rice was under the influence of alcohol, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Nahon's brother told The Herald-Tribune that his brother was a "generous" man: 

"A graduate of Riverview High School and Manatee Community College, Nahon lived in Sarasota for more than 35 years.

Laurent Nahon said his brother was a generous, fun-loving person who adored being with his family.

“He wouldn't order the 3 oz steak; he'd order the 10 oz steak,” he said. “He dreamed big and he lived big.”

Rice faces a first-degree murder charge and is being held without bond, according to the sheriff's office website.
