Hummer Overturns On University Parkway

Florida Highway Patrol says the driver overcorrected his steering when his Hummer drove onto the shoulder.

A 37-year-old Sarasota man is being treated for serious injuries after his Hummer overturned on University Parkway Monday evening.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the single-car crash at 8:58 p.m. near University Parkway and Whitfield Avenue where thy found Douglas Wayne Cason inside his 2005 Hummer.

The Hummer traveled eastbound on University Parkway in the right lane then veered off the road onto the grassy shoulder that contained a culvert, according to Highway Patrol. As the Hummer entered the culvert, the driver attempted to steer back onto the road, but overcorrected, causing the right side tires to sink into the grass, causing the Hummer to flip multiple times before landing on its roof in the culvert, according to Highway Patrol.

Cason was wearing a seatbelt, and was transported to Blake Medical Center to be treated for his injuries, according to Highway Patrol. 

Charges are pending, according to Highway Patrol.
