Loaded Handgun Found in Sarasota Hotel Garbage Can

The Glock 9 mm had been reported stolen in Manatee County, Sarasota Police said.

A loaded handgun that had been reported stolen was found in a Sarasota hotel garbage can last week, police said Monday.

A maid found the gun in a garbage can in one of the hallways of the Regency Inn, 4200 N. Tamiami Trail, on July 5, according to Sarasota Police. Officers were called around 10:44 p.m. that night.

The gun, a Glock 9 mm, had a round in the chamber and a magazine with 16 other rounds, police spokesperson Genevieve Judge said in a media release.

The handgun had been reported stolen in Manatee County on July 1, Judge said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sarasota Police Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations at 941-954-7070 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS (8477), online at sarasotacrimestoppers.com or via text message by texting TIP109 plus a message to CRIMES (274637).
