Man Sentenced for Beating Dog to Death

A Sarasota man whose fatal beating of a friend's dog was caught on surveillance video has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that 52-year-old Kevin Koscielniak used a tire iron for 10 minutes to beat a pet dog to death. The beating was caught on surveillance tape at John's Automotive on Snug Harbor Place in Sarasota.

Shop owner John Olaya had ordered Koscieniak to leave his shop the day before after Koscieniak showed up there intoxicated.

The next morning, Olaya noticed that his dog, which lived at the shop, was gone. Olaya checked the surveillance video, which showed Koscieniak breaking into the place, grabbing a tire iron and killing his dog.

According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, assistant state attorney Art Jackman said: “This was a senseless act of violence indicative of a depraved mind.”
