Missing Person Alert: Elderly Man Was Headed to Sarasota Memorial Hospital

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in locating an elderly man who was reportedly headed Saturday morning to Sarasota Memorial Hospital but had not yet arrived at the hospital.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in locating an elderly man who was reportedly headed Saturday morning to Sarasota Memorial Hospital but never showed up, authorities report.

Derwood Robert Bessler, 91, was last seen leaving his Roxanne Boulevard home around 8:30 a.m, May 11. He had not yet arrived at the hospital as of 10:30 a.m., the sheriff's office said.

The missing man, who may be reportedly suffering from dementia is described as 6-foot-1, 180 pounds with balding-gray hair and blue eyes. He was last seen driving a "Robin's egg blue" Taurus with Florida Registration M987VN, authorities said.

Anyone who sees Bessler or his 2009 Ford Taurus is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency or the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office at (941) 316-1201.
