Pedestrian Faces Critical Injuries After Struck By Hit-And-Run Car

The car struck two pedestrians on U.S. 301 around midnight Saturday.

Sarasota Police are searching for a car that struck two people on U.S. 301 in north Sarasota and left the scene of the hit-and-run crash.

The crash happened just after midnight Saturday when two pedestrians stood in the median on U.S. 301 just nort of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, according to police. 

The northbound vehicle drove onto the median and struck the pedestrians and continued north, according to police.

The vehicle is described as a silver or dark colored four-door sedan and believed to have front-end damage and possible cracked windshield, according to police.  The vehicle was driven by a white male who has not been identified, according to police. 

One of the pedestrians, John Haygood, 62-years old, of Sarasota, was transported to Blake Medical Trauma Center for life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, according to police.

The second pedestrian did not require medical treatment, according to police.
