UPDATE: Pedestrian in Critical Condition After Being Hit by SUV Identified

UPDATE: The man that was in critical condition after being hit by an SUV on U.S. 41 in Sarasota on Tuesday night has been identified as 50-year-old Charles Joseph Raymond according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Raymond is now in serious condition, according to a report.

ORIGINAL: A man is in critical condition after being hit by an SUV on U.S. 41 in Sarasota on Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver, Danielle Pierre Louise, 28, of Murdock, Fla., was reportedly headed north on  U.S. 41  in the outside lane approaching the intersection of Old Venice Road around 10:30 p.m. when she saw an unknown male attempting to cross the street, according to a report. 

Louise slammed on the breaks of her 2006 Chevy Impala to avoid hitting the man, but her left side mirror struck him, sending him onto the roadway, the report said. The man, whose identity is still unknown, was airlifted to Blake Medical Center, the report states. 

Charges are pending an investigation.
