Police Looking For Attempted Murder Suspect

Sarasota Police has a warrant to arrest Joseph T. Lamar for a Tuesday shooting and is considered armed and dangerous.

Sarasota Police are asking for tips on the whereabouts of an attempted murder suspect today stemming from a Tuesday night shooting.

Sarasota Police said they developed probable cause to arrest of Joseph T. Lamar, 39, for attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Lamar is a convicted murderer who was released from prison in 2012, according to police.  He should be considered armed and dangerous. A photo of Lamar appears with this story.

"Lamar, 39, was released from prison after serving more than 19 years of a 25-year sentence for second-degree murder in a case out of Sarasota County, according to the Florida Department of Corrections."

The shooting occurred at about 10:18 p.m. Tuesday in the 3200 block of Lemon Avenue where a 22-year-old man was transported by helicopter to Blake Medical Center and a 19-year-old was treated at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for his injuries, according to police.
