Police: Man Arrested Following Abduction Attempt in Sarasota

A Bradenton man allegedly tried to abduct a woman early Sunday morning, police say.

Dion Barnes, of Bradenton, was arrested by the Sarasota Police Department after a woman says he tried to abduct her a gunpoint, according to a media release.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, 911 received a call around 6:20 Sunday morning that a person driving a white Honda attempted to abduct the victim as she was standing near the roadway at 17th and US 41 in Sarasota.

Officers located the vehicle a few minutes later and tried to conduct a traffic stop, police say.

The vehicle fled, officers followed and were able to stop the car at University Parkway and N. Lockwood Ridge Road, according to the media release.

Barnes was arrested on the charges of fleeing to elude and reckless driving. The case is still under investigation. Police say Barnes may be face additional charges.
