Resort Employee Charged with Grand Theft

A Sarasota man has been charged in the grand theft of a woman's luggage at a Sarasota resort.

A 27-year-old man working at the Lido Beach Resort in Sarasota was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly stole a valuable luggage from a customer, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Ramon Colon-Estrada, 27, 3500 block of Chinaberry Lane, Sarasota, was charged with felony grand theft after he took a bag containing approximately $10,000 worth of items from the car of an Ohio woman just before his started his shift at the resort, according to the report.

The bag contained a camera, iPad and jewelry, the report states. Around noon on July 13, the victim reported the bag missing to hotel staff. She thought she had left it in the lobby during check-in, but it was later discovered that she had left the bag inside her vehicle in the parking garage, the report said.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the parking garage that showed Myers walking next to the victim’s car while arriving for work. The video shows Colon-Estrada turning around and going up to victim’s car out of the camera's range, then moving his vehicle to another parking space.

Colon-Estrada was charged with grand theft and taken to Sarasota County Jail were he was later released.
