Sarasota Bicyclist Run Over by Car
A 44-year-old man was struck and killed Monday evening on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota near Hidden Glen Drive while riding his bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Walter L. Campbell, of Sarasota, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was hit and killed by a 2001 Cadillac driven by Bertram Burke, 77, of Sarasota around 9:30 p.m., according to the report.
According to witnesses, Campbell and his bicycle were lying in the eastbound lane of Bee Ridge Road and Burke failed to notice them, striking Campbell and the bike. It is unknown why they were in the road, the report said.
Charges are pending an investigation.
