Sarasota Man Accused of Sexual Battery, Incest of Minor

Joshua Riley is accused of forcing a young relative to have sex with him for years.

A Sarasota man accused of forcing a young relative to have sex with him for years is arrested July 5, Sarasota Police report.

Sarasota Police arrested Joshua Riley, 22, on charges of capital sexual battery and incest of a 14-year-old victim in the City of Sarasota.

Detectives were called after the victim confided in a friend about the alleged abuse on June 27, according to police. 

The victim told authorities that the abuse at the age of 10 years old, during the summer, according to police. Detectives also learned that Riley would unlock the victim's bedroom door using a butter knife when he wanted to have sex, according to the victim's account. 

Riley agreed to talk with detectives, and during a polygraph, he confessed to the crime, according to police.

Although, in Riley's account, he began making the victim have sex with him when he was 8, which would make the victim an infant at the time, police say.

Riley is in custody. He is being held without bond. He faces a sentence of life in prison without parole.
