Sarasota Man Threatened to "Go Out in Blaze of Glory" During Two-Hour Standoff

No one was injured and the man finally surrendered after a two hour standoff with Sheriff's deputies.

A two-hour standoff on Friday ended with the arrest of a man who authorities say barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to shoot them by going “out in a blaze of glory,” according to the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office.

Chad Adair, 44, 2300 block of Pinehurst Street, was charged with shooting into an unoccupied dwelling and shooting into an occupied dwelling after he allegedly fired his Glock 40 at his front door four times as deputies were moving in, according to a report.

No one was injured, however all of the bullets reportedly penetrated the door and landed in the direction of his neighbor’s house across the street, a report said.

SCSO deputies had responded to Adair’s home in reference to a domestic disturbance.  Adair was inside the home armed with the handgun when they arrived; his girlfriend told authorities he was very angry, upset and threatening suicide, the report states.

A SCSO sergeant was on the phone with Adair trying to calm him down while deputies surrounded his home, a report stated.

Adair could see them moving in and told the sergeant he had a handgun and 200 rounds of ammunition. He then stated that that if they entered, he would shoot them and “go out in a blaze of glory.”

The situation peaked when Adair shot through his front door, with bullets coming within two feet of responding officers. The two-hour standoff finally ended with Adair’s surrender.

Authorities later discovered that Adair had also fired shots twice inside his bedroom while his girlfriend and her 19-year-old daughter were still inside the home.

Adair was taken to the Sarasota County Jail where he is being held on a $20,000 bond.
