Shoplifting Crackdown Yields 59 Arrests

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office worked with loss prevention staff at retailers along two major shopping corridors.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has released the results of a crackdown on shoplifting along two major retail corridors that yielded 59 arrests in just over a week.

Deputies working with retailers along Cattlemen Road in Sarasota and U.S. 41 (just south of Jacaranda Boulevard in Venice) said they:

  • Made 59 arrests and obtained warrants for two additional suspects.
  • Arrested suspects who already had a total of 1,000 prior charges and now face 99 new charges. 
  • Apprehended 15 serial offenders, including suspects identified with two organized retail theft rings.
The Sheriff's department worked with the following retailers: Walmart, Home Depot, Beall's, Beall's Outlet, Burglington Coat Factory, Target and Sports Authority.
