Teen Falls Asleep At Wheel, Crashes Car

17-year-old Bradenton teen had four passengers in his SUV, and nobody was injured.

A Ford Explorer full of teens escaped injury after the 17-year-old driver crashed damaging property at King James Big and Tall Saturday afternoon.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the King James store, 4333 S Tamiami Trail, at 3:36 p.m., for a crash that damaged signs, landscaping, a sprinkler system and a retention wall at the store.

A Bradenton teenaged boy driving the Explorer had apparently started to fall asleep at the wheel when the crash occurred, according to Highway Patrol. The teen is charged with careless driving, according to Highway Patrol.

Other teens in the car included a 15-year-old Venice girl, a 17-year-old Venice girl, a 17-year-old Bradenton boy and another Sarasota male, whose age wasn't available, according to the Highway Patrol report.

All passengers and the driver were wearing their seatbelt.
