City, County Offices Closed For MLK Day

The City Commission meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Sarasota city and county administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, to observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Sarasota City Commission's meeting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. at City Hall. 

Weekly garbage and recycling collection will not be affected.

Sarasota County Area Transit and Manatee County Area Transit will be on a normal bus schedule on Jan. 21.

All Sarasota County libraries will be closed.

All Sarasota County recreation centers will be closed, with the exception of the following:

  • Arlington Park Recreation Center, open noon-5 p.m.
  • Payne Park Tennis Center, open 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m. 

The collection schedule for solid waste, yard waste and recyclables will not be affected by the holiday and remains on the regular pickup schedule, with no interruption of collection.

  • The landfill at 4000 Knights Trail Road in Nokomis will be open, but the administrative office will be closed.
  • The gun range at Knight Trail Park will be closed.

Sarasota County's chemical collection centers at 8750 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota; and 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice, will be closed; however, the Citizen's Convenience Center at 4010 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis, will be open.
