Driver's License, Tag Database To Go Offline

Florida's driver's license and tag renewal systems will not be available this weekend and on Sept. 21-23 as well.

License or tag expired? Better renew it before 6 p.m. today.

Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles online services will go offline from 6 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10 as its servers are moved from one data center to another in Tallahassee. No appointments will be accepted in the state's driver's license offices on Monday and Tuesday due to the move.

The state encourages people whose tags expire today or already expired should visit www.GoRenew.com before 6 p.m. The website will be unavailable during the move.

The move is complex and will require a complete shutdown of all Highway Safety enterprise systems throughout the weekend. Customers will not be able to access online services, and employees will not have access to work email accounts during the weekend of the move.

Another outage is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21. Online services will be unavailable during this phase, which Highway Safety estimates will take one to two days to complete. In-office services will not be affected for that move.

The move is part of the state’s Data Center Consolidation plan. In 2008, Florida lawmakers passed legislation that mandates all state agency data centers and computing facilities to consolidate into state primary data centers by 2019.
