New Sidewalks Planned For Phillippi Shores Elementary

A Florida Department of Transportation project will improve sidewalks surrounding Phillippi Shores Elementary School in July.

Better sidewalks are coming soon to the  community.

The Florida Department of Transportation start sidewalk improvements this month to the community surrounding the Phillippi Shores Elementary School including sections along Mill Terrace, Shade Avenue, Palm Terrace, Fiesta Drive and School Avenue.

Improvements include construction of new sidewalks, drainage improvements and signing and pavement markings at various locations.

L-J Construction will be constructing this $179,500 project.  Weather permitting, work should be completed in the fall.

The project is funded through the federal Safe Routes to School program, which is administered by FDOT.

The Safe Routes to School program encourages students to walk and bike to school and facilitates programs that make walking and biking a safe alternative.  

A public meeting on the project will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Phillippi Estate Park, 5500 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
