Osprey Avenue Bridge To Undergo Work

Boat clearance will be reduced under the Osprey Avenue Bridge by two feet during maintenance.

Boaters navigating the Hudson Bayou are told to watch their height as they pass under the Osprey Avenue bridge for the next six weeks.

Boat clearance under the Osprey Avenue Bridge at the Hudson Bayou will be temporarily reduced by approximately two feet beginning Monday, July 9, due to maintenance to the bridge, the City of Sarasota announced. 

The work is expected to be completed in six weeks. The U.S. Coast Guard issued a local notice to mariners regarding the reduced clearance.

The reduction is necessary while crews work below the water line to replace concrete embankments on both sides of the bridge. 

Cofferdams will extend into the channel under the bridge and direct vessel traffic.  The current height for clearance is about 8.4 feet, according to the city.  It will be temporarily reduced to about 6.5 feet depending upon tide elevations, accoridng to the city.
