Payne Park Playground Closes For Construction

Shade structure to be installed beginning today through Dec. 14.

Payne Park playground will be a construction site again as it will be closed starting today to install a shade structure.

The playground, which partially opened in June, is expected to re-open on or before Dec. 14.

The shade structure will cover the small children playground (ages 5-12) as well as the music area, providing relief from the sun as requested by residents after temperatures were found to be too hot on the plastic playground equipment. The installation will include the placement of support columns and cables and will require the entire Payne Park playground to be temporarily closed, according to the city.

In January, portions of the playground will be temporarily closed again to install a shade cloth over the structure, according to the city.  The planned closure dates are Monday, Jan. 14 to Friday, Jan. 18.
