Sarasota Vice Mayor Encouraged By Biden's Visit

Sarasota Vice Mayor Willie Charles Shaw says he hopes to hear "good news" from Vice President Joe Biden.

The second in command on Sarasota's City Commission was excited to see the second in command of the United States Wednesday morning.

Vice Mayor Willie Charles Shaw waited in line Wednesday among the hundreds of others waiting to hear what Vice President Joe Biden would say to Sarsaota voters at the Municipal Auditorium.

"It's my representation in person when I see the vice president or anyone from the White House that brings to America what America's all about to reach out, talk to those persons representing the highest government," Shaw told Patch. "I'm very excited."

Shaw, a Democrat, says he hopes Biden will give voters some encouragement and good news.

Shaw won't get anyone one-on-one time with the vice president to lobby for the city's needs, but he said he was "blessed" to meet First Lady Michelle Obama during her visit here in January.
