Sheriff's Office Approved for Veterans Training Program

Veterans can now receive on-the-job training for certain roles at the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has received approval from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to train veterans and other eligible persons for certain positions.

The Sheriff’s Office can now offer on-the-job and apprenticeship training for Communications Operator/Dispatcher, Corrections Deputy and Deputy Sheriff. Under the program, hired veterans can receive GI Bill payments to supplement their income while being paid a trainee wage. Post-9/11 veterans are also eligible for a housing allowance from the VA.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office hires veterans who have received an honorable discharge and completed their military obligation. Family members of disabled veterans or surviving family members of veterans can also apply for the training program.
