President Obama Endorses Sarasota Rowing Bid

The President's endorsement will make Sarasota's case for hosting the World Rowing Championships in 2017 even stronger.

Thanks to the work of local contacts with the Obama White House, Sarasota’s bid for the FISA World Rowing Championships has the official support from President Obama. 

The Sarasota team will be taking Obama’s official endorsement with them as part of their formal presentation to the International Federation of Rowing Associations (FISA) in Switzerland this weekend. 

The letter of endorsement signed by President Obama reads, in part:

“The United States would be honored to host the World Rowing Championships for the first time in 23 years. Sarasota County would be thrilled to share its beautiful and expansive beaches with the athletes, and would provide a wonderful, unique experience for each of the 42,000 attendees… 

“I strongly support Sarasota County’s bid, and I urge the International Rowing Federation to approve it.”
