New Help For Sarasota Kids With Autism

A new charter school for children with autism and related disorders will open in the Manatee-Sarasota area next month.

A new charter school for children with autism and related disorders will open in the Manatee-Sarasota area in August, according to school officials.

The Applied Behavior Analysis Academy, 365 Braden Ave., Sarasota, is designed to cater to students of all ages, from 3 to 21 years old. Attendees will be grouped by age, and each will have a program designed individually on a level specifically to assist their needs.

“Our program will also address communication and language, social skills, independent life skills and other areas of social significance for our students,” said school director Shelly Swift.

ABA plans tor work closely with Easter Seals Academy, a charter school already established at the location, according to Swift.

The school can accommodate up 25 children with autism and/or related sensory, behavioral and development disorders that can interfere with an ordinary classroom.

The academy will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting event on Aug. 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents are encouraged come meet with the directors Swift and Anne Katz and tour the facility's four classrooms and two therapy rooms.
