Tropical Storm Isaac: Ringling College To Evacuate Students

Students must leave Ringling College of Art and Design by 11 a.m. Sunday to avoid Tropical Storm Isaac. Evacuation starts after classes Friday.

Officials at Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota are not waiting to see where Tropical Storm Isaac is headed, and are evacuating students starting Saturday.

The mandatory evacuation was issued today, but the start of it appears to be dependent on the student's class schedule, according to the college's website.

All students must be off campus by 11 a.m. Sunday. Classes are canceled Monday and Tuesday.

Classes and events are running at normal schedule Thursday and Friday, and attendance is required on both days, according to the college, and a meeting is planned tonight for further instruction:

There will be mandatory hall meetings for all residence hall students tonight at 10 PM, specific location assignments of these meetings will be sent via email.  Attendance at these meetings is necessary to inform residential students of specific plans to prepare for the storm.

By 11 a.m. Sunday, residence halls, apartments, computer labs — everything at the college will be closed except for offices, according to the college's website.

Offices will be open as normal on Monday and Tuesday, but might change schedule or close depending on the storm.
