Keep it Moving: Frankford Says Best Bet is Spot-Hopping

Capt. Terry Frankford of Reelin' & Chillin' Charters reports what he's been catching in Sarasota Bay

Capt. Terry Frankford of Reelin & Chillin Charters said has has been catching trout, redfish, flounder and black drum on inshore trips in Sarasota Bay.

"Spending a few minutes at each location until we found the fish worked best," Frankford said. "Redfish and black drum were found around structure mostly docks and oysters near mangroves. No more than 20 minutes would be spent at a location without a bite. The secret was to keep moving until we located the fish."

Frankford fished with the Wieland family -- Bruce and Shaleen with sons Alex, 11, and Andy, 8.

"Everybody caught fish with a bunch of trout being the 'catch of the day,' not to mention a nice flounder to go along with dinner," Frankford said. "I think the crazy catch, however, was the stingray that I thought was a huge redfish at first."

Frankford said bait used was live hand-picked shrimp from Hart's Landing Bait located at 920 John Ringling Causeway.
