Beryl Barrels Toward Florida

Beryl may be the unwelcome guest at Memorial Day gatherings, as the subtropical storm makes landfall in Jacksonville.

Subtropical Beryl may crash some Memorial Day weekend parties, bringing showers and putting a damper on outdoor plans.

Boaters are being advised to seek safe shelter, with thunderstorms and gusting winds in the forecast through Tuesday.

As Beryl barrels toward Jacksonville, there is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms in Sarasota and Bradneton. The rain will continue tonight and into Monday, with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a partly sunny day today and Memorial Day, wth temperatures in the mid-80s.

Boaters need to be wary of rough seas today and gusting winds. The rain will bring relief to parched areas in Polk County, where there have been wildfires scorching land and bringing smoke to Bradenton and Sarasota.
