P.F. Chang's

Ok, so I went to P. F. Changs, a chain described as a "China Bistro" simply hoping to find one or two things that were good. I am not a huge fan of chain restaurants in general, but I gave it a shot since it's new here in Sarasota.
We started with a bunch of apps. The steamed vegetable dumplings  were completely average, the crab wontons were ok, but not any better than you could get at your local grocers freezer section and make at home. Their "famous" lettuce wraps were decent. Flavors of chicken and mushroom came through, and it was even better when you added the sauce that our waitress mixed up table side. It was simply a soy sauce with hot mustard and chili paste stirred in, but it did add a nice layer of flavor to the chicken mixture. Our last app was the Northern Style Spare Ribs. These were ordered plain for my daughter. They accommodated us no problem, and served both a spice rub and a BBQ sauce on the side. The ribs were actually moist and tasty on their own.
Our main courses were the Crispy Honey Chicken and the Pork Lo Mein. The chicken came out luke warm and was more tangy than sweet. The fried coating was soggy under the sauce and was not very pleasant to eat. The lo mein was just whatever. The pork in it was very salty and the only vegetable in there was celery and carrots. I would not order it again.
Overall, it was just about what I expected it to be. A chain restaurant that was packed on a Thursday night, but after eating there I just cant understand why.
Bottom Line: I'll keep looking for decent chinese in SRQ, because I didnt find it here.
