With the Holiday season upon us, now would be a good time to volunteer our time and efforts to help out some great organizations serving Sarasota.

The Salvation Army is a charitable organization that works in over 121 countries. One of the missions of the Salvation Army is the advancement of education and to relieve poverty worldwide. The Sarasota branch of the Salvation Army has many volunteer opportunities. Call 364-8845, ext 222 for information and currently available assignments.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that helps provide relief to victims of disaster and to support and serve the community when people are in need. The American Red Cross is staffed primarily by volunteers and through every volunteer's efforts the Red Cross helps over 100,000 people in need each year in Southwest Florida.

Mote Marine Laboratory

The Mote Marine Laboratory is a non-profit organization that has seven centers for marine research, the Mote Aquarium and an Education Division that helps children and adults of all ages. To learn more about volunteer opportunities email volunteerinfo@mote.org.

The Humane Society of Sarasota County

The Humane Society of Sarasota County's mission is to promote responsible pet ownership and to find permanent homes for all adoptable animals. Resurrection House

Resurrection House is a homeless shelter that has provided assistance to Sarasota's homeless for over 20 years. These services include counseling, medical treatment, food, clothing, showers, veterans assistance, post office, phone service and others. The shelter has over 200 volunteers and is always looking for extra help. To volunteer call 941-365- 3759.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity's mission is to provide decent, affordable housing to people in need. With the help of thousands of volunteers over the years, Habitat Sarasota has built 191 homes in Sarasota County. To volunteer, call 941-365-0700.

Make-A-Wish

Make-A-Wish Foundation's mission is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Help make a child's dream come true. To volunteer call 941-952-9474.

Tidewell Hospice

Tidewell Hospice serves more than 1,200 patients a day in Southwest Florida. Tidewell's mission is to provide the highest quality of care for patient's living with advanced illness regardless of their ability to pay. To help volunteer, call 941-552-7500.

Pines of Sarasota

Pines of Sarasota has been providing compassionate care to the elderly for the past 61 years. The center helps assist people with Alzheimer's disease, short term rehabilitation and outpatient services. To help volunteer, call 941-365-0250.

Toys For Tots

The mission of the U.S. Marines Toys For Tots is to collect new, unwrapped toys from October through December and distribute these toys to children in need. The Marine Corps partners with many organizations throughout the year to help enrich the lives of children every year. To volunteer, call Jim Lamb, at 941-228-6800 or email jimt4t@msn.com.
