Wet Weekend on the Way for Sarasota/Bradenton

Forecasters say afternoon storms are in the picture for much of the weekend, but rain chances begin to diminish as the new week gets started.

Just because rain chances are high this weekend, doesn’t mean Sarasota/Bradenton residents can’t get in a little beach time.

On Friday and Saturday, “if you want to go to the beach, go earlier,” suggests Rodney Wynn, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Ruskin office.

Wynn said rain chances are about 70 percent on Friday and Saturday – especially in the afternoon and early evening hours. Thunderstorms are expected to form over Florida’s east coast and move their way across the state to Tampa Bay. That means morning and early afternoons should be nice, but outdoor activities after 4 p.m. might be off the table through Saturday, Sept. 7.

Things start to clear out a big Sunday and going into Monday when rain chances fall to about 30 percent.

Wynn said area residents can expect highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s through the weekend.
