Ben & Jerry's Co-Founder Stamps Money Out Of Politics In Sarasota

Ben & Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen greeted Sarasota visitors with his Amend-O-Matic StampMobile Friday night.

Ben & Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen arrived in St. Armands Friday to put his own stamp on the American political system. Cohen came with his Amend-O-Matic StampMobile that's a bit of a Rube Goldberg machine, sending dollar bills through a contraption, stamping them with messages to help influence people to ask their lawmakers to overturn the Citizens United decision, giving corporations the power to donate endlessly to political campaigns and political action committees. "Stamp Stampede is part of the larger movement to pass a Constitutional Amendment that corporations are not people, and money is not speech," Cohen told Patch inside the St. Armands Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Scoop Shop. Ben & Jerry’s Co-Founder Jerry Greenfield Visiting Sarasota Store on Jan. 29

The St. Armand’s branch of the popular ice cream eatery will offer free cones as a fundraiser for WSLR.

Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, will be visiting Sarasota for the 2nd consecutive year on Saturday, Jan. 29. To honor the occasion, the St. Armand’s Circle Ben & Jerry’s will be soliciting donations for WSLR 96.5 LPFM while doling out free cones from 3 – 4 p.m. WSLR programmers will be on hand to live broadcast the event. “Initially, Jerry just wanted to stop by and say hi,” explained franchise owner Rick Almarode. “But it seemed like a waste to let that celebrity presence go by without taking advantage of it to help someone.” The Sarasota scoop shop has a long history of supporting WSLR. They’ve underwritten the local news programming for years, and the proceeds of the past three annual Free Cone Days have gone …
