Sarasotan Biking From Key West to Alaska to Benefit Hospice
27-year-old Sarasota resident J.W. Frye will embark on a roughly 7,500-mile ride Feb. 23 from Key West, FL, to Alaska.
It will be around 6 or 7pm, as the light becomes tired and bronze. J.W. Frye will be pumping bicycle pedals through one of the many terrains he’ll encounter - mountains, deserts or plains – he’ll be scouting a spot to sleep. Perhaps it will be a public patch of land, maybe a rest stop. He hopes a stranger will guide him to an area where he can pitch a tent, roll out his sleeping bag and nap. The 27-year-old Sarasota resident will pedal alone ... For about 7,500 miles. The ride will begin Feb. 23 in Key West, FL, and end sometime this summer in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, which is located on the state's northern slope. All for hospice.
