Man Shot After Aiming Rifle At Deputies

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says that the man led them on a chase through Sarasota before they arrived at the suspect's home where the man aimed a rifle at deputies.

A man with a violent history is recovering from a bullet wound today from a Sarasota County Sheriff's deputy after the man had apparently aimed a rifle at two deputies. The incident started when deputies attempted to pull over a red Chrysler convertible on U.S. 301 near Myrtle for speeding just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, but the car drove off after it initially pulled over near Bahia Vista and U.S. 41, according to the sheriff's office.  Deputies didn't pursue the car, but instead drove to the address registered to the car, 3500 Aloha Way, arriving there at 3:30 a.m., according to the sheriff's office. When deputies arrived, the red car was parked in the driveway and Gudmestad's driver's license laid on the ground, according to the affidavit. …

Car Theft Suspect Shot By Sarasota Police During Pursuit

Car stolen in Manatee County found its way to Sarasota, leading Sarasota Police on a chase.

A car theft suspect is recovering from two gunshot wounds from Sarasota Police on Thursday morning after the suspect led police on a chase and attempted to run down officers with the car. At 1:35 a.m. Thursday, police were told to be on the lookout by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office for a stolen black 2012 Nissan and at 1:57 a.m., officers spotted the car on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Central Avenue and attempted to stop the car. Instead of stopping the Nissan traveled north on Central Avenue, reached a dead end, turned around, struck a fence and at that time, several officers on the scene exited their patrol cars ordering the suspects out of the car, according to police. Deputies Pursue 14-year-old in Stolen Car

The pursuit went for two blocks after deputies tried to stop the car because it was missing a tire and driving on the rim.

Deputies arrested a 14-year-old on grand theft auto charges this morning after noticing that the car was missing a tire and the driver was riding on the rim. The teenager took deputies on a two block pursuit near Whitfield Avenue and Westmoreland Drive before he drove over a curb and got stuck in a yard. The pursut began when deputies attempted to stop the driver and the car briefly sped up and ran a stop sign, then misjudged a turn and ran over a curb into a yard. Deputies discovered that the white sedan was stolen earlier that night in Sarasota and that it belonged to Emmalina Cater, 25. The teenage driver was arrested, while a passenger in the car was detained.
