A 55-year-old woman was air-lifted to Blake Medical Center on Thursday night afte she was struck by a car on N. Tamiami Trail near 18th Street.
Updated, 5:22 p.m.: Sarasota Police investigators have identified the injured pedestrian as Dorothy M. McMahon, 55, of Sarasota. She is still in critical condition at Blake Medical Center, officials said Friday. Earlier: A 55-year-old woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a car Thursday night on North Tamiami Trail near 18th Street. The woman was attempt to cross the road at 8 p.m. heading west, but was struck by a southbound car, according to Sarasota Police Department. The victim was flown by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton where she is listed as being in critical condition, according to police. Unknown car left the scene of the crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a vehicle that left the scene of a crash Tuesday afternoon that injured three people on southbound U.S. 301 north of University Parkway. The unknown vehicle on southbound U.S. 301 in Manatee County approached University Parkway in the right lane around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, and changed into the left lane directly into the path of a 2003 Saturn Ion, according to Highway Patrol. The driver of the Saturn, Shonise Tierra Domino, 24, of Sarasota, swerved to avoid a crash with the car, but lost control and drove into a ditch in the median, according to Highway Patrol. Crash at 12th Street and Tuttle Avenue sent both the driver of a motorcycle and van to the hospital for their injuries.
A 58-year-old motorcyclist is battling life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon following a crash on 12th Street and Tuttle Avenue. Sarasota Police are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at 12:07 p.m., at the intersection that involved a motorcycle and a van. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries, according to police. An 85-year-old motorist suffered serious injuries Saturday, when he drove his Acura into the path of another vehicle on U.S. 41, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Gerard Hirsch of Sarasota was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Ronnie Hirsch, 82, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to the Sarasota hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the FHP. Hirsch's car was hit by a 2006 Kia driven by Emina Hamzic, 30, of Sarasota. Hirsch was turning from Southpointe Drive on to U.S. 41, when he pulled into the path of the Kia, according to the FHP. Hamzic had minor injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol says the driver overcorrected his steering when his Hummer drove onto the shoulder.
A 37-year-old Sarasota man is being treated for serious injuries after his Hummer overturned on University Parkway Monday evening. Florida Highway Patrol responded to the single-car crash at 8:58 p.m. near University Parkway and Whitfield Avenue where thy found Douglas Wayne Cason inside his 2005 Hummer. The Hummer traveled eastbound on University Parkway in the right lane then veered off the road onto the grassy shoulder that contained a culvert, according to Highway Patrol. As the Hummer entered the culvert, the driver attempted to steer back onto the road, but overcorrected, causing the right side tires to sink into the grass, causing the Hummer to flip multiple times before landing on its roof in the culvert, according to Highway …

Truck possibly carrying pool chemicals spills over on road.
Update: State Road 72 is now open after a crash closed the road before 11:30 a.m. Earlier: State Road 72 in Sarasota is closed in both directions at the Bee Ridge Road extension, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. A crash occurred where one of the vehicles involved was possibly truck carrying pool chemicals which have spilled, according to the sheriff's office. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department are on the scene and cleanup is underway.

17-year-old Bradenton teen had four passengers in his SUV, and nobody was injured.
A Ford Explorer full of teens escaped injury after the 17-year-old driver crashed damaging property at King James Big and Tall Saturday afternoon. Florida Highway Patrol responded to the King James store, 4333 S Tamiami Trail, at 3:36 p.m., for a crash that damaged signs, landscaping, a sprinkler system and a retention wall at the store. A Bradenton teenaged boy driving the Explorer had apparently started to fall asleep at the wheel when the crash occurred, according to Highway Patrol. A Sarasota man is being treated for critical injuries after being struck by a car on Bee Ridge Road.
A 53-year-old bicyclist is being treated for critical injuries tonight after he was struck by a car at a Bee Ridge Road Sunoco. Florida Highway Patrol responded to Bee Ridge Road and Strathmore Boulevard at 8:13 p.m. Thursday where they found Gregory John Alan Sodders of Sarasota in the road after being struck by a car, according to a FHP report. Sodders was attempting to cross Bee Ridge Road from the Sunoco and entered into the direct path of an oncoming 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Michael Decrescenzo, 41 of Stratham, New Hampshire, according to Highway Patrol. A 29-year-old Sarasota woman died Monday at Bayonet Point Hospital after a crash on Interstate 75 North in Pasco County Sunday, according to media reports. The driver's name is Melanie Caporale, Tampa Bay Times reports.
