Ringling Walmart Appeal Hearing Continued To Feb. 26

City Commission decided to finish meeting at the later date because of the length of Tuesday's meeting.

The next chapter of the proposed Walmart Supercenter on Ringling Bouelvard will be continued Feb. 26. The City Commission voted to continue the meeting at 6 p.m., Feb. 26 at City Hall due to the length of the Tuesday's meeting, which wrapped up at 11:18 p.m. The commission still had 40 people, at about 3 minutes per speaker, left to get through the meeting, including their own deliberations, putting the next meeting at least two hours long. The City Commission is tasked with deciding whether the Walmart's site plan complies the the CSC-N zoning code. Walmart To Host Community Meeting For Ringling Store

While attempting to secure approvals from the city, Walmart is reaching out to Sarasota residents for their input.

Walmart is inviting the neighborhood out to talk about its proposed Supercenter in the Ringling Shopping Center. A community meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Payne Park Auditorium, 2100 E. Laurel St. Walmart is proposing to build a "small Supercenter," which is a 97,779-square-foot store with 370 regular parking spaces, and would have to demolish the city's oldest shopping center to make way for the new store. The meeting invitiation also promotes an "energy efficient store with enhanced architectural design features complimentary to downtown Sarasota."
