Do you belong to a group that wants to make a difference in the community? Southeastern Guide Dogs needs you!

It costs a lot of money to run the programs here at Southeastern Guide Dogs.  You have probably already heard the figure of $60,000 as the cost to create and nurture a guide dog team for life.  Considering the fact that we create approximately 80 to 100 new guide dog teams per year, you can see that it takes substantial funds to do the work we do.  One of the ways we fundraise is by enlisting the broad reach of civic-minded groups to run what we classify as third-party fundraisers. These third-party fundraisers can be diverse in their activity from bake sales and car washes to golf tournaments and concerts.  We are lucky that we have a strong base of loyal supporters who believe in our mission and work hard to make sure we can continue to …

Weekend Things: Kenny Rogers, Forks and Corks, D.C. United and More

We have your weekend covered whether it's Kenny Rogers, "Yentl" at Asolo Rep, Forks and Corks, D.C. United soccer or Hemingway at the Crosley.

1. "The Gambler" Kenny Rogers will perform at 8 p.m. tonight at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall singing his country hits and new songs from his recent gospel album. Tickets cost $30 - $80. (True story, there are actually Kenny Rogers "The Gambler" themed slot machines. Guess you do have to know when to fold 'em.) 2. There are still a few tickets left for today's Asolo Repertory Theatre's production of Yentl, which features new songs by singer-songwriter Jill Sobule. You remember Sobule for her 1990s hits "I Kissed a Girl" and "Supermodel" from the movie Clueless. Tickets cost $61 and today's show is at 2 p.m. The play contains mature themes.  3.
