FCAT Scores Released For Sarasota Schools
This year's writing test scores reflect the approved lowering from a 4 to a 3 score for a passing grade.
Sarasota County Schools still ranks above its peers across the state even with the Florida Department of Education lowering passing scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test writing portion. The state Department of Education released test results Friday morning for the growingly controversial FCAT, which tests reading and writing. The scores, on a zero to six scale, were lowered from 4 to a 3 for a passing score for the writing test. At the start of the year, that score was increased to 4 from 3.5. Because of that change, Sarasota County Schools are taking a look at how many students received a 3 or better this year compared to last year, too. Quite simply, the schools do not provide the teachers, the training nor the materials to teach reading properly. Dumbing-down the system for FCAT scores or grades to cover the inadequacies is obvious.   more ›
