Sarasota’s Version of the Gastropub

Opened not quite a year, the Retropolitan Grille has distinguished itself with an innovative and slightly different type of dining experience.

The Retropolitan Grille which has been open for a little less than a year has been quietly building a following in Burns Court. A renovated 1920’s Florida cottage provides charm and character for this Sarasota newcomer. Billing itself as a “gastropub,” we were intrigued and wanted to learn more.  The term gastropub originated in Britain and was used to distinguish a British pub which concentrates on the quality of the food and not just the drink. In that sense, we would agree with Retropolitan’s moniker.  However, it should be noted Retropolitan is more of a restaurant than a traditional pub. Offering a reasonable choice of beer and wine is a given; but what about the food menu? The food offerings are more upscale than a traditional pub …
