Photos: The Best Holiday Lights in Florida

The votes are in, and seven Florida homes were named town winners in Patch's Deck The House contest.

We asked, and Patch readers answered: Seven Florida homes have been honored as town winners in Patch's Deck The House holiday lights contest. The winning entries came from Patch readers in Bradenton, Carrollwood, Dunedin, Gulfport, Palm Harbor, Seminole Heights and Temple Terrace. (See photos of the winning homes above.) Of those seven homes, John Banacki's home in Palm Harbor has been chosen as one of 24 national finalists in the contest. The Banackis have won $500 toward their December electric bill, and they're in the running for the national grand prize, a $100,000 donation from Patch to the public school district where the winner lives. You can vote for the Banackis and Pinellas County Schools, and see the other 23 winning light …

Holiday Lights at Jungle Gardens Continues

10th annual Holiday Lights takes Sarasota Jungle Gardens visitors a stroll through tropical paradise with Christmas lights.

Christmas in tropical paradise might be hard to imagine at times, but Sarasota Jungle Gardens is trying to bridge that gap with its holiday lights walk. Visitors can pay an admission to Jungle Gardens and walk through the zoological park and look at Christmas lights in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and visit Santa and more. The walk continues Friday through Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and returns for its final weekend on Dec. 16-24. Cost is $11 for adults, $6 for kids ages 3 to 12, and kids younger than 3 years are free. When you enter the gardens, you'll hear Christmas tunes sung by local musicians to help get you into the spirit as lights shaped as flamingos, owls, and palm trees light the path around the park. Grace Baptist Boasts Over 500,000 Lights In This Year's Display

Grace Baptist Church is busy getting its "Christmas at Grace" light display ready for public viewing.

He said his passion for lights made for great Christmas displays at home, even when he was a small child.  Holiday light displays at the Pierson home became a family tradition, which turned into a neighborhood tradition and then became too large for one house to hold.  As his display got more popular, he said, it also became more hazardous because of the increased traffic.
