Congestion is reported from University Parkway to Fruitville Road.
Updated Jan. 30. The Monday afternoon crash that caused gridlock from University Parkway to Fruitville Road didn't result in any injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. A 2006 Honda Motorcycle driven by David Slater, 65, had crashed into a cable barrier in the median, prompting several cars to stop, according to Florida Highway Patrol. No other details are available. Northbound Interstate 75 experienced delays and back-ups as far as to the Fruitville Road exit due to a multi-car crash. The crash occurred at about 12:42 p.m. Monday, and the left shoulder is blocked due to the crash, and at least one car was in the median, according to a witness.

A 54-year-old Sarasota motorcyclist is being treated for serious injuries following a crash on southbound Interstate 75 Sunday evening. Florida Highway Patrol responded to mile marker 213 near University Parkway at 5:58 p.m. Sunday for the crash where Joseph A. Gaeta Jr., was ejected from his 2001 Suzuki 1000 CC motorcycle from a crash. Gaeta traveled southbound on I-75 in the center lane, attempted to change to the left inside lane, failed to maintain control, overturned his motorcycle and was thrown onto the roadway, according to Highway Patrol, when the motorcycle traveled 285 feet before it came to a stop. Gaeta was transported to Blake Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Ramps to Interstate 75 from Fruitville Road are shut down due to a cleanup of a three-vehicle crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The northbound outside lane of Interstate 75 at Exit 210, as well as both entrance ramps from State Road 780 onto Interstate 75 are shutdown at this point in time. The crash ocurred at 1 p.m. on northbound I-75. No one was injured in the crash, according to Highway Patrol. Driver John Schroeder, 41, of Lakewood Ranch, is being charged with careless driving, according to Highway Patrol. This closure is due to cleanup from a three vehicle traffic crash. Traffic is encouraged to avoid the area if possible.

A 29-year-old Sarasota woman died Monday at Bayonet Point Hospital after a crash on Interstate 75 North in Pasco County Sunday, according to media reports. The driver's name is Melanie Caporale, Tampa Bay Times reports. Caporale, driving a 1997 Lexus ES 300, was going northbound on I-75, north of Pasco County Road 578 in the right lane, according to Florida Highway Patrol. For unknown reasons, the driver failed to maintain control of her car and struck a ditch on the right side of the highway, which caused the car to rotate slightly clockwise, then counterclockwise before going airborne when it struck a tree, according to Highway Patrol. From what I've seen on Rt 75 there's no enforcement of the speed limit. I intentionally drive 70mph (which is the posted speed limit) just to watch the idiots drive like a crazy person to pass me. It won't hurt my feelings if they kill themselves. I understand the FL Patrol cannot be everywhere at once. But, geeeeeeee at least stop & arrest the person driving like a maniac.
