Attempted Murder Suspect In Custody

Joseph Lamar turned himself in at Sarasota Police Department headquarters Tuesday evening without incident.

Sarasota Police Department is trumpeting its ability to have an attempted murder suspect to turn himself in through collaboration in the community. The department, now under the watch of Police Chief Bernadette DiPino, has attempted murder suspect Joseph Lamar in custody and have charged him with attempted murder and aggravated battery for a shooting Tuesday, according to police. Lamar turned himself in at Sarasota Police Headquarters on Adams Lane at about 5 p.m., and by his side were the Rev. Kelvin Lumpkin, a city commission candidate and leader of an anti-crime ministerial alliance FOCUS group; Trevor Harvey, president of the Sarasota NAACP and Leslie Williams, according to police. Police Looking For Attempted Murder Suspect

Sarasota Police has a warrant to arrest Joseph T. Lamar for a Tuesday shooting and is considered armed and dangerous.

Sarasota Police are asking for tips on the whereabouts of an attempted murder suspect today stemming from a Tuesday night shooting. Sarasota Police said they developed probable cause to arrest of Joseph T. Lamar, 39, for attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm. Lamar is a convicted murderer who was released from prison in 2012, according to police.  He should be considered armed and dangerous. A photo of Lamar appears with this story. The Bradenton Herald reported details of Lamar's past: "Lamar, 39, was released from prison after serving more than 19 years of a 25-year sentence for second-degree murder in a case out of Sarasota County, according to the Florida Department of Corrections."
